OTHS is Going out of Busiess

I am sad to say that Olde Towne Hobby Shoppe has closed its doors for good as of April 30th, 2008. Unfortunately it was just not possible to stay in business any longer. To those of you that supported the store over the years, a heartfelt thank you goes out to you.

As they say in the Navy, Farewell and Following Seas.

HPI Rally car with 2-Speed Transmission

This is the funniest thing. I've got this cool project car - an old HPI Rally car with a 10-turn Speed Gem motor and a 2-speed transmission. There's nothing like hearing an electric car hit second speed. I've got pictures of it here and later tonight I'll get a video up on youtube.com with the car in action.

New Hydrogren Fuel Cell Powered R/C Car

I saw this yesterday online and I just HAD to share it with you. This is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. A company called Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technologies has developed a power pack for a 1/10 Scale Electric R/C car that fits perfectly into the Tamiya TT-01 chassis. Check out the full review and videos of the car in action here at http://www.horizonfuelcell.com/rc.htm .

Electric Micro Heli Comparison

Today we’re going to review three different hobby-grade micro helicopters. They are the E-flite Blade CX2, the Heli-Max AXE EZ and the IMEX micro helis. Though these three have very different looks to them, they have many similarities under the hood. Let’s take a look. Here’s a quick chart for you to start with:

And for those that have a hard time finding parts, here’s a quick little chart to help out in those times of need…

As you can see, there’s not too much difference between these micro helis. The biggest difference is in the Blade CX2 – you get a 2.4GHz radio system, vice an FM system. The AXE EZ however, comes with the training gear. All three are priced under $200, so you really can’t go wrong with any one of these. This is a great way to learn to fly a helicopter for anyone.

How to paint an R/C Body

This article is for those of you that have always wanted to try this but never had the confidence. Here we will look at a real easy, inexpensive way to paint an R/C Lexan/polycarbonate body. For this, you will not need an airbrush, you can do it all with spray paint. What you’ll need to do in preparation for this is to first, get a body that fits your vehicle. Next, have an idea about the design that you want to create. That will help you in choosing the color scheme....See the full article here.

E-Flite Blade CX2 - New Version is now available!

Horizon Hobby has done it again. They have managed to make the most popular micro heli even better. For the same price as before, the new E-Flite Blade CX2 now features:

- Aluminum Head/Hub included/installed on the heli - Part# EFLH1240
- Over-Current Protection Devices
- 3-in-1 Control unit
- Spektrum AR6100e Receiver is now a separate unit

So, for those of you that may want to use this Spektrum radio system in another R/C vehicle in the furture, now you can. The receiver is now a separate unit from the 3-in-1 controller/mixer unit. Also, over-current protection devices prevent the 3-in-1 unit from burning out in the event of a crash. Does this mean that E-Flite will now put a warranty on this unit? That remains to be seen, but for now, the best micro heli just got better. Get yours here today!

It's all about the Brand

Branding is an important key to any business and especially one that sells merchandise of any kind. For this reason, Olde Towne Hobby Shoppe is formalizing it's brand definition and will share this information and philosophy with you, it's customers, here soon. Why is that important? Well, we feel it is impotant to have our customers know how we would like to treat them. We want our customers to know who they can turn to when they have questions and concerns about their products. Finally we want our customers to easily recognize us and find us wherever they go shopping for their favorite hobbies.
